The Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance for Community Development (MIPA) seeks to fill the Bookkeeper/Program Administrator position on its staff. An exempt, full time position, the MIPA’s Bookkeeper/Program Administrator will work under the general direction of the MIPA’s Executive Director, to perform a variety of bookkeeping, financial reporting, general Workforce Project administrative functions, and related work. Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Coordinating with the Executive Director or Finance Director to assist in the preparation and administration of the annual operating budget
  • Processing invoices and purchase orders
  • Preparing bank statements and finance reports for monthly board meetings, annual financial audit (to be completed by an outside agency), and other related activities through the accounting software that MIPA utilizes
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual budget reports
  • Preparing state and federal grant reports
  • Maintaining the MIPA’s financial accounting software
  • Maintaining accounting and bookkeeping systems for other organizations the MIPA supports by contract
  • Auditing of Workforce Project participant electronic case files. Ensure eligibility and data integrity
  • Generate Workforce Project performance predictive reports and disseminate key stakeholders.
  • Attend Workforce Project meetings and sub-committee meetings. Keep minutes and post appropriately
  • Review Workforce Project reports and documents. Assist with revisions and formatting to ensure professionalism
  • Workforce Project sub-recipient invoice review
  • Organizing, digitally scanning and saving, filing bank reconciliations and other paperwork
  • All other job duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Compensation and Benefits

The Bookkeeper/Program Administrator position has a starting salary range of $52,000 – $62,400+ DOQ. The MIPA offers the following benefits package:

Education, Experience, and Skills Desired

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience in accounting, finance, or related field. Graduation from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or related field can substitute 3 years of experience. The candidate should be familiar with principles and practices of government accounting and revenue management. Including an understanding of Iowa’s system of local, state, and regional government as well as knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations. 

The candidate must be able to work as a team member, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, handle a high volume of work in a busy and demanding environment, effectively prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously, and contribute to the success of those projects.  Accuracy and timeliness in completing assignments is extremely important.

The Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance is a regional planning entity comprised of local communities and community development stakeholders in the central Iowa region. The Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance provides a regional forum to ensure coordination between the public and local, state, and federal agencies regarding planning issues, and to prepare related plans and programs.
